A veneer is a thin layer of tooth-coloured material that is put onto the front of the tooth to make it look better. The tooth may be discoloured, damaged or a nicer smile may be sought. They can be used to enhance a smile ie; whiter, straighter, close gaps, hide imperfections, or repair damages resulted from traumas or fillings or front teeth caries.
Veneers can be made in surgery (composite veneers) or through a lab (porcelain veneers). The dentist will go through the options and the procedure. Veneers sometimes are better alternatives to crowns because they are much more conservative of sound tooth tissues than crowns.
