A toothbrush is for life, not just for Christmas ( but it does make a great gift).

Have you started thinking of Christmas gifts?

An electric toothbrush may not be your first thought for a Christmas present, but you can be assured anyone who receives one is always grateful, especially during the Christmas season.

Teeth are under constant attack at this time of the year due to the chocolates and Christmas goodies that we all eat at this time of the year, resulting in a mega sugar attack to our teeth.

Be reassured though, using an electric toothbrush to brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste is a great way to fight back, helping to remove plaque and prevent gum disease.

Unfortunately, 25% of adults admit they do not brush their teeth twice a day, even people who only brush once a day are 33% more likely to develop tooth decay.

Some helpful tips regarding oral health are:

1 – Brush teeth after meals;

2- Drink through a straw. If you expose your teeth to a lot of fizzy/sugary drinks. In great volume this types of drinks can be very harmful to teeth causing tooth decay and erosion.

3- Chew sugar free gums encourages saliva production which helps reducing the acid attacks to your teeth, it also freshens your breath in between tooth-brushing.

4- Wait an hour after eating before brushing teeth. Brushing within an hour of eating can brush away tiny particles of enamel, leading to eventual tooth erosion.

5- Don’t rinse just spit after cleaning teeth, this then allows a protective coating of the fluoride  in a toothpaste to coat your teeth.
